Description
The FURUNO 525STID-MSD7 is a bronze thru-hull transducer designed for compatible Furuno fish-finder and sounder systems. Rated at 600 W and operating at 50 / 200 kHz, it converts the sounder’s electrical pulses into acoustic energy and returns underwater echoes used to display depth, fish and bottom structure. Because the transducer is the part of the sonar system that actually interacts with the water, correct hull material, mounting method and installation location are just as important as the display connected to it.
- 600 W sounder rating: Matched to compatible Furuno sounders that support this conventional CW transducer class.
- 50 / 200 kHz operation: Dual-frequency acoustic coverage gives a broader search beam at the lower frequency and finer target definition at the higher frequency.
- Bronze thru-hull housing: Intended for installations where this material and mounting method suit the hull construction and vessel use.
- approx. 45° / 12° beam pattern: Frequency-dependent beamwidth balances broad coverage with tighter high-frequency detail.
- 30 ft (approx. 9 m) cable with 10-pin connection: Factory lead simplifies connection to compatible Furuno sounder ports without field-splicing the transducer cable.
What This Transducer Measures
The 525STID-MSD7 provides depth, speed, temperature information according to the connected sounder and the sensor elements built into this model. Depth comes from the acoustic return itself, while speed and temperature—where fitted—are supplied by dedicated sensor elements in the housing. The connected Furuno display determines which sounder features can be used with the data.
50/200 kHz Conventional Sonar
At the lower frequency, the transducer uses a wider acoustic beam that covers more water and is generally better suited to deeper searching. At 200 kHz, the beam is narrower, which improves separation of nearby targets and bottom detail in shallower to moderate depths. Many Furuno sounders can display both frequencies together, allowing the operator to compare broad coverage with higher-resolution detail.
Through-Hull Installation
Installation quality has a major effect on sonar performance. The transducer face must stay in clean, non-aerated water and should be kept away from strakes, steps, through-hulls, propeller wash and other sources of turbulence. The longer 7-inch stem is the key physical difference from the standard 525STID-MSD. Confirm hull thickness, fairing geometry and clearance inside the vessel before selecting the long-stem version.
Any transducer that passes through the hull requires careful sealing and compatibility with the hull material. Plastic through-hull housings should not be installed in applications where the hull or fittings create a galvanic or structural concern. Bronze housings are generally suited to fiberglass and wood but should be evaluated carefully before use in metal hulls. Follow Furuno/Airmar installation instructions rather than choosing sealant and torque values generically.
Compatibility and Sounder Features
The 525STID-MSD7 uses a 10-pin Furuno connection and is listed with multiple Furuno fish finders and MFD sounders. Exact support for ACCU-FISH, Bottom Discrimination or RezBoost depends on the sounder model and transducer identification. Buyers should match the transducer to the actual Furuno display before drilling the hull, because physical fit alone does not guarantee every software feature will be enabled.
Airmar Housing
This model is based on the Airmar B744V housing family. That reference is useful when comparing dimensional drawings, replacement fairing blocks and installation literature, but the Furuno part number and connector should still be used when ordering for a Furuno sounder.
Fairing Block
A high-speed fairing block is included. The 7-inch stem gives additional reach through the fairing/hull assembly for installations requiring the longer bronze stem.
Cable Handling
The transducer cable should be routed away from ignition wiring, high-current conductors and other noise sources. Avoid cutting or splicing the cable unless Furuno specifically authorizes the method, because the cable is part of the acoustic system and an improper splice can introduce signal loss or noise. If additional length is required, use the correct Furuno extension cable for the connector and sounder.
