Description

The FURUNO MCU006H is a horizontal remote-control unit for compatible NavNet TZtouch3 and NavNet TZtouchXL systems, designed to give the operator positive physical control of the MFD without relying entirely on the touchscreen. On a premium helm, this is more than a convenience accessory: it can make chart, radar and sonar operation much easier when the display is mounted beyond comfortable reach, the vessel is moving in rough water, the operator is wearing gloves, or a second control location is needed at a captain’s chair or fishing station.

  • Horizontal installation format: The control layout is arranged for horizontal panel placement, allowing the installer to choose the version that best fits the helm, chair arm, console or auxiliary control station.
  • Large RotoKey / joystick control: The main rotary control can zoom the chart or radar view, move the cursor as a joystick, navigate menus and confirm selections, providing much of the interaction normally performed directly on the screen.
  • 10 dedicated dual-purpose keys: Physical buttons give fast access to common navigation and display functions, reducing the number of touch gestures needed during active operation.
  • Control multiple compatible displays: The controller can switch the MFD being operated in a supported multi-display network, allowing one remote to serve more than one screen.
  • NMEA 2000 connection: The remote connects through NMEA 2000 and is supplied with a 2 m cable, simplifying installation into a properly designed marine data backbone.

Why Add a Physical Remote to a Touchscreen Helm?

Touchscreens are fast and intuitive at the dock or in calm conditions, but precise touchscreen operation can become more difficult when the boat is accelerating, pounding into chop or rolling offshore. MCU006H gives the operator a stable physical reference point. The large rotary/joystick control can be held while zooming or moving a cursor, and the dedicated keys make it possible to perform important functions without visually hunting for a small on-screen target.

RotoKey, Joystick and Zoom Control

The central control performs several jobs depending on context. It can act as Furuno’s RotoKey for scrolling through choices and changing values, as a joystick for moving the cursor or panning the screen, and as a zoom control for chart and other supported views. A push confirms the highlighted item. This combination means many day-to-day tasks can be performed from the remote with a single hand.

Dedicated Keys for Common Operations

The MCU006 series includes ten dedicated dual-purpose keys. Functions include direct access to the Home/Settings environment, event/GOTO operations, cursor/scroll control, cancel/MOB, display-control functions, Edge Swipe access and other navigation-information or programmable actions according to the connected MFD and software. Long-press and short-press functions allow the small controller to cover substantially more operations than a simple keypad with ten single-purpose buttons.

Switching Between Displays

In a supported network, one MCU006H can control multiple compatible Furuno displays. The display-control function allows the operator to switch which MFD is active at the remote. This is valuable on a multi-screen helm because the remote does not have to be permanently assigned to only the closest screen. It also makes the controller useful at a chair arm or central helm position where the operator can reach one physical control while watching several displays.

Where the Horizontal Version Fits

MCU006H is functionally the same control concept as the MCU006; the difference is physical orientation. Choose MCU006H when a horizontal opening works better with the available panel or mounting surface. Choose MCU006 when a vertical layout fits better. Neither orientation is an upgrade over the other, so the decision should be based on ergonomics, available panel space and how the operator’s hand naturally approaches the controller.

Compatibility Planning

Furuno lists the MCU006 series for NavNet TZtouch3 and NavNet TZtouchXL. Current Furuno system documentation also uses these controllers within supported newer NavNet installations. Because remote-control capability can depend on MFD generation, network arrangement and software version, the installer should confirm compatibility with the exact displays in the system before cutting the panel. The remote is a control interface only; it does not contain a chartplotter, radar processor or sonar processor of its own.

NMEA 2000 Installation

MCU006H connects using NMEA 2000 and is supplied with a 2 m cable. It should be connected to a properly terminated and powered NMEA 2000 backbone in accordance with Furuno/NMEA installation practice. Panel placement deserves the same attention as electrical connection: the controller should be close enough for comfortable one-handed operation, with adequate clearance behind the panel for the connector and cable bend radius.
