Description
The Raymarine EV-200 Sail Pilot is a complete Evolution autopilot package for mid-sized sailboats with mechanical steering. It combines the EV-1 9-axis sensor core, ACU-200 actuator control unit, p70s control head and Type 1 mechanical linear drive. Evolution steering algorithms monitor vessel motion continuously and minimize the calibration burden associated with older autopilot systems.
Main Features
- EV-1 9-axis sensor core continuously measures vessel attitude and motion for stable heading control.
- ACU-200 actuator control unit supplies the steering drive and connects the pilot to vessel power.
- p70s autopilot control head provides dedicated course control and status information.
- Type 1 mechanical linear drive supplied for the intended steering architecture.
- Application range: boats within Raymarine Type 1 linear-drive displacement/steering limits; final drive sizing must be based on actual steering-system specifications.
Evolution steering
The EV-1 sensor uses solid-state attitude and heading sensing to adapt steering response to sea state and vessel dynamics. Properly sized systems provide accurate course keeping with less manual calibration than traditional compass-based pilots.
Network integration
SeaTalk NG/NMEA 2000 networking connects Evolution to Axiom chartplotters, instruments, GPS and wind data. A compatible Axiom multifunction display can also provide autopilot control and navigation commands when configured correctly.
Drive sizing matters
Autopilot selection must be based on the actual hydraulic cylinder volume, steering ram or mechanical drive requirements—not boat length alone. For hydraulic systems, verify cylinder capacity and pump flow before ordering.
Installation planning
The package still requires correct power protection, SeaTalk NG backbone connectivity, steering plumbing or mechanical installation, and commissioning. A rudder-reference sensor may be recommended for some vessels and operating conditions.
