Description
The GARMIN GPS 24xd (White) is an external NMEA 2000 GNSS position receiver with integrated heading sensor for marine navigation systems. Multi-band, multi-constellation satellite reception improves position performance, while the magnetic heading output helps compatible chartplotters stabilize chart orientation and radar overlays at low speed.
Main Features
- Multi-band GNSS reception for improved marine positioning
- GPS and multiple global satellite constellations
- 10 Hz position updates for responsive navigation
- Integrated magnetic heading sensor
- NMEA 2000 interface for simple system integration
Positioning
An external roof- or pole-mounted receiver can improve satellite visibility compared with a display mounted under a hardtop or inside a pilothouse. Multi-band reception is designed to reduce certain errors caused by reflected satellite signals.
Heading data
The integrated magnetic heading sensor provides vessel heading even when the boat is moving slowly or stationary, where course-over-ground is not a useful heading substitute.
System integration
NMEA 2000 allows the receiver to provide position and heading data to compatible chartplotters, autopilot components and other marine electronics on the network.
Installation
Mount in a location with a broad sky view and away from strong magnetic fields. Heading performance depends on correct placement and calibration.
What’s in the Box
