The Garmin Compact Reactor 40 Hydraulic Autopilot with GHC 50 and Shadow Drive is designed for compatible smaller powerboats with hydraulic steering. Unlike a corepack that requires a separately selected pump, this package includes the Compact Reactor 40 control system and a 1.0-liter hydraulic pump, along with the GHC 50 touchscreen autopilot instrument and Shadow Drive helm-override technology.

Designed for Smaller Hydraulic Systems

This Compact Reactor package is positioned as an entry-level autopilot for selected smaller hydraulic-steering installations, particularly single-engine outboard applications. It is not the correct choice for every hydraulic system, power-assist installation or high-demand steering application. Confirm engine configuration, steering-cylinder volume, vessel size, deadrise and intended use against Garmin’s autopilot compatibility guidance before ordering.

Course Keeping and Control

The Reactor 40 heading system senses vessel motion and continuously adjusts steering to maintain course. The GHC 50 provides dedicated autopilot controls at the helm, while compatible Garmin chartplotters can exchange navigation commands over NMEA 2000.

Shadow Drive

Shadow Drive lets the operator take manual control by turning the helm; the autopilot disengages so the boat can be steered immediately. When conditions permit, autopilot control can then be re-engaged.
