Description

The FURUNO FCV800 is a dedicated 8.4-inch colour fish finder that combines Furuno’s TruEcho CHIRP processing with conventional continuous-wave sonar capability. It is designed for anglers who want a purpose-built sounder screen rather than sharing fish-finder information with chart and radar pages on an MFD. The unit adds modern features such as Color Range Expansion and wireless TZ iBoat viewing while retaining established Furuno tools including ACCU-FISH, Bottom Discrimination, RezBoost and White Line.

  • TruEcho CHIRP: Operates across a selectable frequency band with compatible CHIRP transducers to improve target separation and definition.
  • Conventional CW support: Works with compatible traditional transducers and Furuno signal-processing tools that remain extremely useful for bottom and fish interpretation.
  • 600 W / 1 kW sounder output: Supports transducer configurations appropriate to serious coastal and offshore fishing, depending on the selected model and transducer.
  • Color Range Expansion and classic Furuno fish-finder tools: Helps separate fish from seabed echoes while retaining ACCU-FISH, Bottom Discrimination, RezBoost and White Line functions.
  • Wireless second-screen capability: Compatible with the TIMEZERO TZ iBoat app and its dedicated fish-finder module for remote viewing/control around the boat.

Dedicated Sounder Advantage

A dedicated fish finder keeps the sonar picture available full time. That is useful when the chartplotter is occupied with navigation or radar and when the skipper wants dedicated knobs/keys and screen space for tuning the sounder. The 8.4-inch display is sized for close sonar interpretation without demanding the panel space of a large MFD.

TruEcho CHIRP

CHIRP transmits across a range of frequencies rather than one fixed tone. With a suitable transducer, the returned broadband information helps separate individual fish, bait and structure that might blend together on a conventional presentation. Furuno lists CHIRP operation over approximately 40–225 kHz, depending on transducer selection.

Conventional CW and RezBoost

Traditional continuous-wave sounders remain valuable, particularly because of the wide range of 50/200 kHz transducers available and because Furuno’s RezBoost processing can improve the clarity of conventional returns. For anglers replacing an older Furuno sounder, a compatible existing transducer may therefore remain useful, although connector and feature compatibility should be checked carefully.

Color Range Expansion

Strong seabed echoes and strong fish echoes can occupy similar colour levels on a traditional palette. Color Range Expansion increases the number of useful colour steps so fish close to the bottom, reefs and structure can be differentiated more easily. It is especially valuable when targeting bottom-oriented species or interpreting dense bait near structure.

ACCU-FISH and Bottom Discrimination

ACCU-FISH estimates individual fish size and depth under appropriate conditions. Bottom Discrimination analyzes the return to classify broad seabed types such as rock, gravel, sand or mud. These are decision-support tools rather than substitutes for sonar interpretation; performance depends on transducer compatibility, installation quality, depth and sea conditions.

White Line and Bottom Fish

White Line emphasizes the upper edge of the bottom echo so fish holding close to seabed structure are easier to separate visually. When combined with Color Range Expansion, this gives bottom fishermen multiple ways to distinguish a fish target from the bottom return.

Fast Transmission and Alarms

Furuno specifies a high pulse-repetition rate—up to roughly 3,000 transmissions per minute under suitable settings—so the display updates quickly. Configurable alarms can monitor depth, fish echoes and other supported conditions, letting the sounder provide useful alerts while the operator is occupied with the boat or fishing gear.

Dual Transducer Ports: CHIRP and CW Together

The FCV800 has two transducer ports and can be configured to use compatible CHIRP and conventional CW transducers together. This matters because some Furuno tools—particularly Bottom Discrimination and ACCU-FISH on certain configurations—depend on conventional dual-frequency data, while CHIRP provides excellent target separation. A properly planned FCV800 installation can therefore combine the strengths of both technologies rather than forcing the operator to choose only one.

Bottom Hardness Output and TLL

The FCV800 adds advanced integration features such as bottom-hardness output for compatible external plotting applications and TLL target latitude/longitude output when connected with the required navigation data. That allows a useful sonar observation—such as productive bottom or a target—to become part of a larger fishing-data workflow.

Wireless TZ iBoat Operation

The FCV800 can connect wirelessly to the TIMEZERO TZ iBoat app when the dedicated fish-finder module is enabled. This is useful on a fishing boat where the main display is at the helm but the angler is working from the cockpit. The mobile device can act as a second sonar screen without installing another permanent display.

Choosing the Transducer

The transducer is sold separately and should be selected before the installation is finalized. Consider hull material, through-hull vs. transom vs. in-hull mounting, beamwidth, fishing depth, frequency band and whether you need temperature, speed, Bottom Discrimination or other features. Transducer choice has a major effect on system performance and should not be treated as an afterthought.
