Description
The GARMIN MSC 10 is a multi-band GNSS satellite compass designed to provide position, heading, pitch, roll and heave information without relying solely on a conventional magnetic compass. It is intended for integrated navigation, radar overlay and other applications where stable heading data improves system performance.
Main Features
- Multi-band L1/L5 GNSS satellite-compass architecture
- GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou constellation support
- Heading, position, pitch, roll and heave output
- 10 Hz position/heading updates with NMEA 2000 integration
- Backup magnetic sensor helps maintain heading information when satellite conditions degrade
Heading without a traditional compass
The MSC 10 calculates vessel heading from GNSS satellite geometry rather than depending entirely on Earth’s magnetic field. This reduces susceptibility to many local magnetic disturbances found around engines, wiring and metal structures.
Navigation and radar benefits
Accurate heading information can improve radar overlay, MARPA/target tracking and chart orientation on compatible Garmin systems. Pitch, roll and heave data can also support other connected marine functions.
GNSS performance
Garmin uses multi-band and multi-constellation satellite reception to improve position and heading robustness. Proper mounting still requires a clear view of the sky and separation from sources of interference.
Network integration
The unit connects through NMEA 2000 and can feed compatible Garmin chartplotters and other supported marine equipment.
